Located in San Diego minutes from downtown and across from the acclaimed Balboa Park, the site was a parking lot infill project that was to house 4 large high-end condominiums. The client expressed their desire to maximize the site density and enhance the views to the park and downtown. The plan’s orientation addresses this by placing the private sleeping areas at the interior of the site and creating a large open glazed area towards the desired views. The volumes are expressed with a defensible rear at the private areas and an open almost exploding glazed area with balconies at the diagonal portion. The dichotomy between the simplicity of the rear and the dynamics of the front thus creating an energy that responds to the bustling downtown and the serenity of the park.
