Located in a small post-steel industrial town outside of Pittsburgh, the project was a 51 unit affordable senior housing development on a relatively flat site. With energy consumption of a concern to the client, the building utilizes the north-south solar orientation for optimal HVAC distribution and solar panel arrangement. The design also utilizes an 8” staggered stud exterior wall to further increase the insulating value of the envelope. The expression of the building was to give a new look for a reviving town.
