Located in Munhall Township outside of Pittsburgh, the site was a sloping cascading typography in a historic suburban neighborhood. The client’s need to maximize the density though conform to the height restrictions of the residential area required a high efficient use of the site. Consisting of 59 affordable senior housing units and common residential spaces, the plan utilizes the cascading nature of the site to partially recess the building into the hillside. With this split level approach, the common spaces thus are enjoyed from both sides along with the upper levels to enjoy views from all areas. The design gets its reference from the neighboring historic library and the smaller single family homes in the area therefore creating a connection to the community.
